    • Spare SD card
  • Action Camera
    • GoPro / Contour or similar
    • Spare batteries (2 spare batteries are recommended)
    • Battery charger
    • Spare SD card
    • Mounting accessories – the Royal Enfield vibrates because of its single cylinder engine and three of my GoPro mounting brackets have broken because of this.
    • Tethering straps for action cameras – this is an essential item when riding on a Royal Enfield to ensure you don’t lose your camera
  • Compact Binoculars
    • Small enough to fit into the tankbag
  • Mobile Phone (Smartphone is recommended)
    • SIM card for Sri Lanka can be purchased at the airport (ensure it is programmed with emergency and other contact numbers)
    • Charger
    • GPS capable (this is handy for accessing Google Maps)
  • Phrase Books (optional but recommended)
    • English – Sinhalese Phrasebook
    • English – Tamil Phrasebook
  • Medications / Medicines
    • Sufficient quantities of any prescribed and non-prescribed medications you normally use (and some that you infrequently use)
    • Common medicines (eg; Panadol, Strepsils – whatever you normally use)
    • Medicine for stomach problems (the hot and spicy food might cause problems)
  • Road Map
    • Sri Lanka road map is provided as part of your rider’s information kit
    • Use a highlighter to mark the roads you will be riding on – very useful when asking for directions
  • Waterproof Duffle Bag
    • To strap onto the pillion seat (we use SM-Motech and Crane (Aldi Supermarket) bags which are good value for money and have never let any water inside)
  • Straps
    • We recommend Andy Strapz products which are fantastic (these straps are stretchable)
    • Gotchastraps are also excellent (these are non-stretchable)
    • SW-Motech bags come with great straps
  • Headlamp / Torch
    • A headlamp is brilliant because it leaves your hand free
    • A micro torch that fits onto a key ring is handy
  • GPS
    • We haven’t used motorcycle (waterproof) GPS units in Sri Lanka
  • Tankbag
    • Magnetic tankbags work on Royal Enfield motorcycles because the petrol tank is metal
    • Having no side pockets is recommended as these press the horn button or starter button when the handlebars are turned to full lock
  • Toiletries
    • Toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver, hair brush, etc
    • Shampoo and soap is normally provided at accommodation (but it is always safer to carry these too)

    • Nail clippers
  • Clothes
    • Shirts/t-shirts, pants, shorts
    • Underwear, socks
    • Bathers
  • Shoes / Slippers / Sandals
    • Slippers or sandals are excellent when relaxing after a ride
    • Shoes may be required at some hotels for dinner
  • Cap / Hat
    • A cap is essential headgear because of the bright sun – and it fits into a tankbag
    • A squashable hat is recommended - but it is too big to fit into a tankbag
  • Wristwatch
    • Royal Enfield motorbikes don’t have clocks
  • Stationery
    • Note pad or journal
    • Pen, pencil, eraser
    • Highlighter (for marking the road map)
  • Insect Repellent and Insect Bite Cream (essential)
    • Essential is a mosquito repellent (don’t take a chance as Malaria and Dengue Fever are a problem in Sri Lanka) – we recommend Bushman products and coat exposed parts of our bodies with the repellent in the evening and nights
    • Always rub insect bite cream immediately after being bitten – Stingose is a good product
  • Hydration
    • Always carry some water, whether for drinking, cleaning your visor, washing your hands, etc. Chilled water or drinks are sometimes not available in remote locations because of no electricity or because fridges have been turned off to save on electricity costs
  • Miscellaneous
    • Zip Lock bags (to insert and seal mobile phone, international drivers licence, phrasebooks, wallet, etc) to ensure they are kept in a waterproof environment
    • Rescue tape
